   Move this book to the top of your summer reading list. I was blown away at the stories that fill the pages of this book. Life for women in so many parts of the world is beyond anything you have ever imagined. Read this book and educate yourself on the horrific realities for girls and women. We are members of a global community and WE MUST MAKE THIS A PRIORITY. We are and have daughters, mothers, and sisters.
    This mothers day consider making a donation or giving a loan through organizations like Kiva or any group that works towards maternal health, or assists rape victims, supports women’s and girls education or rights.

    Owen recently celebrated his 22nd Birthday. For this exciting occasion I purchased him some    snowmobiling gloves and felt it necessary to write out why I wanted him to have these- not only to justify my purchase but also to have something nice to put in his card ;) I am very thankful and in love with him in every way. <3
                                 Why I Want Your Hands to Stay Warm from the Snow:   Even though I love all of you from head to toe I want you to know why your hands are so important to me and why I want your hands to stay warm from the snow.Besides the fact that snow is cold and being cold isn’t fun- I want them warm and safe for more than just that.I need your hands to hold mine. Hold them around the mall, at a scary movie, or in the truck.
I need your hands to wipe my tears, to hug me when I’m sad, and to play with my hair.
I need your hands to play with, and to fix all your toys- to steer the boat, the dirt bike, the street bike, the car, the truck, and the snowmobile.
I want them safe and warm so you can play video games, hold your favorite books, play volleyball, and help your family
 I need your hands to hold me when we dance.
I want them safe and warm so you can do fun things in the mountains and pull out your sled out when it gets stuck.
I need your hands to hold your glass of wine to toast to our good fortunes.
 I need your hands to make a difference in the world- for the earth,for your family, for your friends, and for all humanity.
I need your hands to fight and push away all evil things.
But most importantly I need your hands to embrace and hold tight to all things beautiful and good -to all those who love you, to things, people, food, and places you love & when you can, to me.
I Love you Owen <3

Pretty Good

      I share this poem with you because it has continued to inspire me over the years. It was shown to me by my Grade 6 teacher and I have kept its message in the back of my head ever since.

Strive for excellence in this life. Ask of yourself and your school, your government, your country and its people to aspire to nothing short of greatness.

Pretty Good.

By Charles Osgood, CBS NEWS
From “The Osgood File“, ©1986, CBS Inc.

There once was a pretty good student.
Who sat in a pretty good class
And was taught by a pretty good teacher.
Who always let pretty good pass.

He wasn’t terrific at reading;
He wasn’t a whiz-bang at math;
But for him education was leading
Straight down a pretty good path.

He didn’t find school too exciting,
But he wanted to do pretty well.
And he did have some trouble with writing,
And nobody had taught him to spell.

When doing arithmetic problems,
Pretty good was regarded as fine;
Five and five needn’t always add up to be ten.
A pretty good answer was nine.

The pretty good student was happy
With the standards that were in effect.
And nobody thought it was sappy
If his answers were not quite correct.

The pretty good class that he sat in
Was part of a pretty good school.
And the student was not an exception;
On the contrary, he was the rule.

The pretty good school that he went to
Was right there in a pretty good town.
And nobody there ever noticed
He could not tell a verb from a noun.

The pretty good student, in fact, was
A part of a pretty good mob,
And the first time he knew what he lacked was
When he looked for a pretty good job.

It was then, when he sought a position,
He discovered that life can be tough,
And he soon had a sneaky suspicion
Pretty good might not be good enough.

The pretty good town in our story
Was part of a pretty good state
Which had pretty good aspirations
and prayed for a pretty good fate.

There was once a pretty good nation.
Pretty proud of the greatness it had.
But which learned much too late.
If you want to be great,
Pretty good is, in fact, pretty bad.

What You Deserve

If there is anything I have learned so far in my 20 short years of living it’s that you must love, respect, and know yourself first before you can expect anyone else to. After a junky relationship I started to talk to myself more to figure out what it was I thought I deserved- what I wanted from a relationship. I made a commitment to not settle for anything less then just that.

I encourage everyone to do this for themselves. To evaluate where they are and where they want to be- who they want to be and who they want to be with. It makes a world of difference.

Always remember that we teach others how to treat us.

Here is what I came up with a while ago but it still holds true for me today:

I deserve a man (not a boy) that does not hesitate the slightest bit to be my boyfriend-to make the clearest commitment to be faithful and honest even under the most alluring temptations. Someone who places my well-being above their own knowing full well that it is in my nature to reciprocate. Someone who respects my dignity, my intelligence, my character, my ambition. Someone who is accepting and head-over-heels in love with the quirky hot mess that I am. Someone who listens to understand, not to respond. Someone that is reliable, straight-forward, and that will protect me. Someone with their own dreams and passions to pursue. Someone who understands the nature, value and importance of hard work and earning an honest living. Someone who respects the unconditional love of their own family and has the patience and understanding to do the same to mine. Someone who is funny- who laughs at themselves. A positive person with big eyes for the future, big hand to keep my small ones safe, and big shoulders to hold me higher.<3

This is your time to be picky- to be selfish. Always remember in return to treat others the way you want to be treated.
